This system provides crime data from a database derived from FBI crime data. It contains crime rates for metropolitan central/principal cities and metropolitan suburban places for 1992 and 1997 - 2004. SOCDS also includes crime rates for the entire metropolitan area encompassing each city and the suburban area remainder. SOCDS provides two options for selecting crime data based on the Office of Management and Budget's(OMB) definition of metropolitan areas; 1) the past 1990 Standard for Metropolitan Statistical Areas and Primary Metropolitan Statistical Areas (MSAs/PMSAs) as established in June 30, 1999 and 2) the present 2000 Standard including both Metropolitan and Micropolitan Core Based Statistical Areas (CBSAs) as established in December 2006. Data for the "Suburbs" are calculated as the data for the metropolitan area less the sum of the data for all central/principal cities (if any) in the metropolitan area. To retrieve a city's data, first choose its State or Metropolitan Area in the upper row. Then choose a central city (if any) and an offense type from the column at the right.
