SOCDS Census Data: Output for Vancouver city, WA

Place of work data for 1970 are not generally available. For 1980, place of work data are only available for principal cities and suburban places with a 1980 population of 25,000 or more. Also, due to the large number of respondents not reporting Place of Work in the 1980 Census, the 1980 data have been allocated to provide a more accurate comparison with the 1990 data.

Place of Work data for 2000 is presented below in two formats: 1) as part of a time series in Standard Industry Classification (SIC) format 2) North American Industry Classification System (NAICS) format. Beginning with 1998 data, the Census Bureau released employment data classified by industry according to the North American Industry Classification System (NAICS) replacing the SIC system which had been the basis for providing industry level employment data. In order to facilitate comparison to earlier years, SOCDS presents estimates of the discontinued Census SIC employment data series for 2000. The estimation technique is based on the approach used to convert employment from NAICS to SIC categories in the SOCDS County Business Patterns Special Extract Data System.
