SOCDS Census Data
This system provides Census data for metropolitan
statistical areas, metropolitan cities and suburbs
for 1970, 1980, 1990, 2000, 2005, and 2006. SOCDS provides two options for selecting Census data based
on the Office of Management and Budget's(OMB) definition of metropolitan areas;
1) past (1990 standard)
and 2) present (2000 standard).
Metropolitan areas defined under the 1990 and 2000 OMB standards are referred to as Metropolitan Statistical Areas (MSAs) and Core Based Statistical Areas (CBSAs) respectively in this system.
In addition, intercensal estimated poverty rate data are presented for 1993, 1995, 1997, and 1998 in this system.
Suburban data are calculated as the data for the metropolitan area
less the sum of the data for all central/principal cities (if any) in the metropolitan area. In New England States, under the 1990 OMB standard option, you can choose whether metropolitan areas
follow the
standard MSA/PMSA definition,
or the
New England County Metropolitan Area (NECMA)
definition.
To retrieve a city's data, first choose the metropolitan area definition of interest, State or Metropolitan Area above,
a city (if any) and table from the column at left.
