Affordable Housing Demonstration: A Case Study, Christian County, Kentucky
In 1982, HUD launched the Affordable Housing Demonstration at 20 sites across the country. Each site took the form of a subdivision, built without Federal subsidy by a local developer. This historic publication is a case study of the Christian County, Kentucky demonstration site, a 21-acre development of 73 single-family detached homes called Hermitage Hill. Local developer Robertson-Tomberlin Homes began the first of two phases of construction on the project in 1985, and through variations in traditional building and development practices, was able to save nearly $9,000 per unit.
